Attitudes Surrounding Group Vs. Individual Cycling During Covid-19

Group exercise settings can offer a team-like environment that enhance social bonding as well increase perceived physical ability and perhaps higher enjoyment of the activity. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, individuals who engage in group were suddenly unable attend their conventional classes. To combat isolation local spin studio allowed its members rent bike follow along rides broadcasted recorded by instructors. Although at home routine was similar workouts performed studio, attitudes participants could vary greatly atmosphere would be missing from experience. PURPOSE: The purpose this exploratory study survey members’ remote cycling experiences during pandemic. METHODS: Seventeen adult cyclists (16F, 37.1 ± 12.0 yrs) responded including 5 Likert scale (scored 1-5, 1 = not true all, very true) 6 open ended questions. Mean standard deviation calculated for each Qualitative response questions analyzed means thematic content analyses determine dominant themes participants’ replies. RESULTS: results revealed less motivated, engaged, felt confident while spinning remotely (1.63 0.89 “I feel more motivated opposed studio”, 1.27 0.46 engaged when I 1.71 1.14 better about my cycle studio”). Members also reported community component most (N 14), but some did enjoy flexibility schedule 6). CONCLUSION: Cyclists favored individually home. This may due resultant increased motivation inherent settings.
